To use advanced search options, click the "Advanced" link to the right of the Search box. Use as many of the following options as you need. Keep in mind that the more restrictions you set on your search, the fewer results will be returned.

Show Results With...
For more accurate results, these text boxes give Yahoo! Search specific instructions about the words you enter. Most have equivalent symbols you can use in the basic search box, too.

• all of these words: Includes all of the words you typed in the search box. This is similar to inserting "AND" between words or the symbol "+" before a word.

  Example: You're looking for Yellowstone Park hotels. Use this field to find pages related to all three words.

• at least one of these words: Searches for results that match either one or more of the words. This is similar to inserting "OR" between the words.

  Example: You want information on either canoes or kayaks.

• the exact phrase: Searches for the words in exactly the order you enter them. This is similar to putting quotes (" ") around a set of words.

  Example: You're looking for a famous saying or quote: "I have a dream."

• none of these words: Excludes words from your search. This is similar to inserting "NOT" between the words or the symbol "-" before a word.

  Example: You want to know about flower arrangements, but you don't like roses. Type flower arrangements in the "all of these words" box, and roses in the "none of these words" box.

Updated
Limit your results to sites that have been updated within the past 3, 6, or 12 months.

Site/Domain
Restrict your search to sites with a specific domain suffix, such as .com, .edu, or .gov. For example, if you'd like to search only web sites of non-commercial organizations, click on the radio button and select ".org" from the drop-down menu.

To specify more than one domain, or one not listed in the drop-down menu, click on the upper radio button and type the domains into the text field, separated by commas.

You can also use this field to search within a particular web site, such as yahoo.com.

Creative Commons Search Beta
This special Yahoo! Search finds pages that have content with a Creative Commons license. It will help you find content on the Web - text, books, educational material, etc. - that is free to share or build upon.

File Format Restriction
You can choose to restrict your search by a specific file type, other than the default setting (all file-types). Currently supported formats are:

• .htm, .html - Standard HTML
• .pdf - Adobe PDF
• .xls - Microsoft Excel
• .ppt - Microsoft PowerPoint
• .doc - Microsoft Word
• .xml, .rdf, .rss - RSS or XML feeds
• .txt - Plain Text Format

If you'd like to keep this filter in place for all your Web searches, you can select this option in "Preferences." The link to Preferences is to the right of the search box on the Advanced Search page and on your Web Results page.

Country
Yahoo! normally searches through websites from all over the world. You can choose to see sites just from a particular country.

Language
Your results may include sites written in English, Japanese, Spanish, or other languages. To limit your search to certain languages, you can select them here.

You can also save Language settings for your web search in "Preferences."

Search Subscriptions Beta
By partnering with publishers Yahoo! has made popular subscription content searchable. Search Subscriptions Beta. You can search subscription content from a range of publications, including Consumer Reports, Forrester Research, FT.com, IEEE, the New England Journal of Medicine, TheStreet.com and the Wall Street Journal.

Number of Results
Yahoo! Search normally shows 20 web results per page. You can choose to see a different number, between 10 and 100. You can set this in "Preferences," too.

When you're ready, click the "Search" button to see your results. The options you selected will be repeated near the search box at the top of the Web Results page.

Search Meta Words
Here is a list of special keywords that give you results unique to that special keyword instruction. You can enter these Meta words directly into the Yahoo! Search box. These keywords help to find web pages that are similar to, or that link to a particular web site.

• site: this allows one to find all documents within a particular domain and all its subdomains.
  Example: site:yahoo.com

• hostname: this allows one to find all documents from a particular host only.
  Example: hostname:autos.yahoo.com

• link: this allows one to find documents that link to a particular url.
  Example: link:http://autos.yahoo.com/

• url: this alllows one to find a specific document in our index.
  Example: url:http://edit.autos.yahoo.com/repair/tree/0.html

• inurl: this allows one to find a specific keyword as part of indexed urls.
  Example: inurl:bulgarian

• intitle: this allows one to find a specific keyword as part of the indexed titles.
  Example: intitle:Bulgarian
